GoCardless can be set up in BETA for visitors purchasing a recurring pass, also known as a subscription. Subscriptions in GoCardless operate as direct debit. Direct debits are different to recurring payments.
Customers must set up their direct debit through a generated passes widget or via the BETA app. First an immediate payment is taken, and a bank mandate it set up in the meantime.
The content below showcases a sandbox demo of the direct debit setup process. Typically, at the 'Please select your bank' stage, end payers will encounter a list of banks.
They'll then locate their bank from the list and proceed with the usual setup flow. For a visual representation of this process, visit this page.
To set up a Direct Debit with GoCardless, you'll typically need to provide your bank details through BETA’s widget.
You will then receive a payment request via email or a link. Click on the link, fill in your details, and authorize the Direct Debit.
With this authorisation (known as the direct debit mandate), you provide authorisation to collect future payments.
The set up process is usually quick and can often be completed within a few minutes. However, Direct Debits don’t clear instantly and therefore it takes 3 days to set up each new payer and for the money to be received by your gym.
GoCardless first processes the payment as a bank transfer until the Direct Debit mandate is setup. Only once the mandate is setup will the subscription show up in your GoCardless account and marked as Active in BETA.
Yes, you will receive notifications via email or text message whenever a payment is scheduled or processed through GoCardless.
You can also check your payment history and manage your Direct Debits through your GoCardless account.
No, with GoCardless's Direct Debit, you do not need to approve each payment individually at the scheduled interval.
Once you've set up the Direct Debit mandate, payments are automatically collected on the agreed-upon dates, saving you time and hassle.
