Before we get started and unless you’ve already done so, gather your team and decide on the number of routes you want in your gym. This will give you a general idea on the number of tap tags to order, don’t forget to order a few spares, and maybe a few neutral colours for competitions!
Regardless of whether you follow the Vermin (V) scale, Fontainebleau Scale, or the YDS scale - Tap Tags let you choose. Group your grades with colours and circuits.

Each tap tap tag is comprised of 3 distinct tags;
QR Code: This unique QR code represents a specific climbing route. Climbers can scan this code to access route-related information, grades, or other relevant details. The QR code also marks the start of the route.
Hand Symbol: Used for the second hand, marking the start.
TOP Marker: The TOP marker signifies the top of a climbing route.

Route Assignment: Each climbing route is designated a TapTag, with its own unique QR code which is specific to that climb.
1x TapTag set - 3x components (ie Top, Start and QR code). Placement on Routes:
Mark the two-hand start of your route and the top.
Place the QR code and hand symbol on the starting holds.
Place the TOP marker on the finishing hold.
Visual Guidance: The combination of colours, QR codes, and symbols ensures climbers have a clear and engaging visual guide throughout their climbing experience (if they use the app or not)
TapTags are designed to be thin and of a thin non-rip plastic. This allows them to fit under climbing holds without interfering with the climb. To maximize their longevity and ensure they remain securely in place, please follow these placement recommendations:
Always place TapTags in areas where they will not be stepped on or scraped ie AWAY from the direction of use of the climbing hold
The best spot is between the wall and the climbing hold, ideally at the bottom of the hold where they are protected.
TapTags are made from thin, flexible plastic so they can withstand some pressure without breaking, but correct placement is key to preventing damage.
TapTags should only be place on the side of a Start hold, when the start hold is too small for the tag to fit under.
