BETA provides a controller unit — a controller running custom BETA software — that connects to your existing turnstile or door hardware. When a member scans their QR code, the controller validates it against BETA in real time and triggers the relay to open the door. All access attempts are logged centrally.
BETA will share this dedicated documentation with you and your hardware supplier on request.
For 24/7 access, we strongly recommend using the dynamic QR code generated from the BETA app. Members open the app, navigate to their pass, and a fresh QR code is generated on the spot.
Each code expires after 15 minutes or one scan, whichever comes first. This means screenshots can't be shared or reused — only the right person, with a valid pass, can get through.

Passes Explainer
Explore our comprehensive guide on understanding passes in BETA, including entry types, pass prices, creation processes, and tracking usage for enhanced gym management.
Static codes:
Google Wallet passes,
Apple Wallet passes,
key fobs, or external IDs
don't expire on use, and with code. Once generated, they stay valid until the pass expires.
BETA cannot control the expiry behaviour of Wallet passes. That's handled by Apple and Google, and it can't be changed. For an 24/7 access entry point, this creates a real security gap.
Enable/Disable Static Codes: Apple/Google wallet entry & External ID entry
Learn how to enable or disable Apple and Google Wallet passes for quick gym check-ins. Manage access for visitors easily in the Settings section.
You can also control what level of verification a member needs before they can generate a QR code at all — from just a valid pass, all the way through to a validated waiver and confirmed safety proficiency.

Choose Gym Wide Check-in Validation Requirements
Learn how to manage the "Allow Unverified Auto Check-In" feature for QR code generation, ensuring only verified climbers access the gym with the right credentials.
Can we use key fobs or NFC tags instead of the app? You can, but we don't recommend it for 24/7 access. Static credentials can't be invalidated without cancelling the pass, and they carry more risk at an 24/7 access entry point.
What if a member can't generate a QR code even though they have a pass? Check your gym's validation settings. If "Allow Unverified Auto Check-In" is disabled, members need a validated waiver and/or safety proficiency before a QR code can be generated.
See Check-in Validation Requirements.
Does BETA install the hardware? No. BETA ships the controller unit with documentation. Your installer or facilities team handles the physical wiring and mounting.
What happens if the controller loses internet? A reliable network connection is critical for turnstile functionality. BETA recommends Ethernet over Wi-Fi. If the connection drops, access validation will not work.
